How long is Roberto prohibited from entering the United States?
- Roberto
is not allowed to enter the United States for 20 years. He was deported in April of 2001. Roberto had been previously deported in 1993. When he was deported in 2001, it was under the order of a "reinstatement of deportation." The reinstatement piece was due to the fact that he had entered the US as an undocumented person for the second time after a deportation. A reinstatement comes with a steeper judgment; that's why Roberto is prohibited from entering the United States for 20 years.
Where do you live? Where does Roberto live?
- We
lived together in Mexico from 2001-2011, in the city of Cuernavaca, in the state of Morelos. (About an hour and a half outside of Mexico
City. ) Giselle moved to San Francisco, California in January of 2011 due to economic reasons. Roberto is holding down the fort at their home in Cuernavaca.
Were you legally married when Roberto was deported?
- Yes, we were legally married at the time of Roberto's deportation. We were married at the Cook County Clerk's office in Chicago, Illinois a little over a week and a half before Roberto was deported.
Are you a US citizen?
- Yes, Giselle has dual nationality; she is a citizen of both Mexico and the United States. She was born and raised in New York.
